Distribution license terms & pricing

Purchasing SequenceXtra does not give you permission to distribute applications you develop using SequenceXtra to other people (even for free) – this requires a separate licence, which you can obtain after purchasing SequenceXtra. You may also have to pay a royalty, depending on whether the application is sold or free, and on the number of copies you distribute.

You do not need to pay royalties, or sign a distribution licence, for applications which you don't distribute to other people; nor do you need to do this for free applications of which you distribute fewer than 1000 copies per year (see below).

Royalties are paid in advance. Royalty rates exclude VAT and are subject to change without notice. You need a separate distribution licence for each application you distribute, and royalties are paid according to the number of copies you distribute of each application separately (not aggregated).

Sold applications

You pay a royalty in advance according to the number of copies of an application you wish to sell:

First 1000 copies: $1 royalty per copy (minimum charge 100 copies)
Next 4000 copies: $0.75 per copy
Subsequent copies: $0.50 per copy

'Sold' applications include any applications which are bundled with sold items, and applications provided as part of a subscription.

If the application has a free demo version available, there is no additional royalty payable for the demo version unless more then 10,000 copies of it are distributed per annum, in which case the free application royalty (below) applies to the demo version.

Free applications (e.g. web downloads)

In this case the royalty depends on the annual number of copies of an application you distribute:

1-999 copies per annum: free of charge*
1000-9,999 copies p.a.: $300 royalty p.a.
10,000-99,999 copies p.a.: $1000 royalty p.a.
100,000+ copies p.a.: ask for pricing details

*You do not need to sign a distribution agreement in this case. However, for downloaded applications you must track the number of downloads (see below), and sign a distribution agreement if the number of downloads exceeds 999 per annum.

Downloaded applications

If you distribute your application via download, you pay royalties as above (whether the application is sold or free); the number of downloads counts as the number of copies distributed. Therefore you must track the number of downloads.

All royalties are payable in advance, so you can pay an estimate of a year’s downloads and adjust the payment at the year end if necessary.
