665: Changing between Network and Standalone use of multiseat licences

Note: the following information applies to Sibelius 6.2 and later only. In previous versions, separate serial number formats exist for network and standalone licences.

Multiseat licences

Multiseat serial numbers (e.g. SCMM, SCEW, SCEM, SCEG, SCEF, SCMF) can be used in two different ways: network and standalone. The differences are explained here.

The mode of usage is chosen the first time you enter a multiseat serial number into Sibelius. You can choose between Network installation using the Sibelius License Server and Stand-alone installation. However, you may also switch from one usage mode to the other at a later point. Mixed standalone and network use of the same serial number is not possible.

Changing from standalone to network use

To change from standalone to network use, you should follow these steps:

  • Complete the registration support form to inform us that you wish to change usage modes. We will make the necessary changes to our database and provide further support if required.
  • Unregister the standalone installations by clicking Unregister Sibelius from the Help menu or the Help section of the File menu (Sibelius 7).
  • Install and register the Sibelius License Server. Details and documentation can be found in this article.
  • Follow the instructions here to reset the serial number.
  • After re-entering the serial number, choose Network installation using the Sibelius License Server.

Changing from network to standalone use

To change from network to standalone use, you should follow these steps:

  • Complete the registration support form to inform us that you wish to change usage modes. We will make the necessary changes to our database and provide further support if required.
  • Unregister the serial number from the Licenses tab of the Sibelius License Server.
  • Follow the instructions here to reset the serial number.
  • After re-entering the serial number, choose Stand-alone installation.

Remember, standalone use gives the administrator less control over how the multiseat license is used, and complicates the process of transferring license 'seats' to other computers. Network use still enables users to run Sibelius while away from the network through the check-out feature of the License Server. For further details of the two usage modes, read this article.
