662: Accessing the Library folder on Mac OS X 10.7 'Lion'
In Mac OS X 10.7 'Lion', you may experience difficulty finding the Library folder. Access to this folder may be required if, for example,
you need to reset your serial number.
There are two Library folders Sibelius users may need to access: the global /Library folder, and the user-specific Library folder. In Mac OS terminology,
/ indicates the highest level of the filesystem, so /Library stores settings which are required by all users on the system, such as system-wide application settings.
The individual users' Library folders exist in each user's home folder, indicated by ~/Library, and store user-specific settings. This article explains how to access both of these folders in OS X 10.7.
The global /Library folder
In order to access the global /Library, you should follow these steps:
Bring the Finder application into focus, by clicking its icon in the dock
Click Go in the menu bar, and click Go to Folder in the drop-down menu
Type in '/Library' and click OK
The folder will open in a new window, and you can then click through to access folders within /Library.
The user-specific Library folder
In order to access your user's Library, you should follow these steps:
Bring the Finder application into focus, by clicking its icon in the dock
Click Go in the menu bar to open the drop-down menu
Press and hold the option (or 'alt') key on your keyboard
A new item called 'Library' will appear in the drop-down menu. Click on this to open your user's Library folder.
In Mac OS X 10.7 'Lion', you may experience difficulty finding the Library folder. Access to this folder may be required if, for example,
you need to reset your serial number.
