233: Scanning - how to scan printed sheet music using Sibelius

Sibelius comes with a free scanning program called PhotoScore Lite, developed by Neuratron. This is sufficient for scanning simple music for small ensembles. PhotoScore Lite does not read text such as titles, dynamics, chord symbols or lyrics, and does not read articulations, slurs, hairpins or other markings.

New versions of PhotoScore Lite are available from time to time to download. Click here for details of the current version.

The separately available PhotoScore Ultimate reads all of the above, and also reads more types of clef, accidental and other musical symbols. You can purchase PhotoScore Professional at a special discount if you get it at the same time as buying Sibelius or an upgrade to Sibelius 5.

Once you have scanned in your music, you can send it to Sibelius with a single mouse click and then play it back, transpose it, and edit it as if you had input it yourself.
