Finding repeat dynamics
Posted by Bob Morabito - 01 Mar 02:26AM
Is there a plugin that finds two (or more) of the same dynamic following each other so that the repeated dynamic can be deleted?

I would guess it would basically filter for dynamics, and then compare, deleting each consecutive repeat of the same dynamic, and one could choose a certain amount of measures whereby the deleting of the repeated dynamic would be skipped. Any undeleted repeat dynamic would then be the new point for the plugin to start its calculations.

Thanks Bob

PS The last post I saw abut this was two years ago where Bob Z said there wasnt.

Nothing I know of would do that.

Where would you say that the same dynamic was redundant? People sometimes repeat a dynamic at the top of a page or after a section break, etc. intentionally, and I doubt a plugin could reliably figure out when a duplicate should be removed.

A plugin could probably trace the locations of identical dynamics in the same staff and voice so you could look at them and decide which ones to delete. An ambitious plugin could do something like what the Go To or There It Is plugins do and make lists of duplicated dynamics texts and let you view them so it would be easier to mark the ones you want to delete.

But there is no published plugin I know of that will do this.

Hi Bob--

Thanks so much for replying:)

It happens a lot from copying and pasting measures, and can be a real time consumer and hard to see/find them and delete them--
Im working on a String Quartet, and am Focusing on each staff/instrument in the quartet, and hand deleting them now.

Many are 1-4 measures apart.

Ive also heard differing amounts of measures where one would repeat the same dynamic, hence my suggestion for this in my original post.
With different sections, a double barline might indicate this, and Id think the repeated dynamic would be in parenthesis, which would make it non deletable. I think a dynamic repeated at the top of a page would also have been placed in parenthesis (all done very nicely by the Insert Current Dynamic plugin!:), so it also would be non deletable.

So in short, any repeated dynamic NOT in parenthesis would be fair game for automatic deletion?

Short of automatic deletion, even these would be a great timesavers Bob.

Thanks so much for your kind reply:)

Thanks Bob
