I know there's a thread about this already, but from what it looks like, it's a little different.

I bought the shippable box version of the Competitive Crossgrade version of Sibelius 6 to upgrade from Sibelius 5 also Competitive Crossgrade). I installed it and everything was fine. I entered the serial number when it asked and I got:

"This copy of Sibelius 6 is a competitive crossgrade. Before you can register your product, you must complete and mail in the form included with your product, together with appropriate proof of qualification."

Cool. I sent the table of contents of Finale and the paperwork when I bought and registered Sibelius 5. No problem.

I open the program after reading the other forum post about the same issue and seeing that they were able to see that it was registered to them and the old serial number. Mine says that it's still an unregistered copy, shows me the new Sibelius 6 serial number, and prompts me to register it and send in paperwork and proof of ownership...

How do I fix this so I can use it after the 15 days?

Heidi, I think you only needed to buy the Competitive Crossgrade when you bought v5. After that, you simply needed to buy the standard upgrade to v6.

Not absolutely sure about this, or what you do about it, but someone (probably Daniel) will be along soon I guess.

Yes, Simon is correct: you didn't need to buy a whole new crossgrade.

Email me (click on my name at the top of this message) with your original Sibelius 5 serial number and your new Sibelius 6 serial number, and I'll take care of this for you.

The Avid website shows separate *upgrades* for Professional, Crossgrade, and Educational versions. It is really easy to get confused as to which one you need.

Granted, the *original* Educational and Crossgrade versions need to exist so you can provide your qualifications, but once you have set those and are upgrading to a newer version, it would certainly be less confusing to the user to just have a single upgrade version.

The serial number formats are different and they indicate that you started as an educational or crossgrade user. Why not have a universal upgrader that understands this if something special needs to be done at upgrade time?

If impossible for technical reasons, then please make it clearer in the web page which version you should buy. Separate upgrades from original versions, maybe. "Crossgrade upgrade" is a train wreck waiting to happen.
