Hi everyone,
I’ve recently switched from Finale to Sibelius and I’m finally getting used to it.
My question this time is about creating my own original 5-line percussion staff using the Virtual Drumline sound library.

I set everything up in Edit Staff Type as shown in the image, and I also assigned the corresponding sounds on the Kontakt side, but for some reason Sibelius doesn’t play any sound.
How can I make the notation playback match the VDL sounds correctly?

It is an unbreakable rule that, for playback of unpitched percussion staves, all sounds on a single staff must be taken from the same "patch" in the sample library. (This rule derives from the way that MIDI handles unpitched percussion instruments.)

Since all the sounds you list in the screen-shot are within different patches of the VDL sample library, it is impossible to have them play back on a single staff.

On another matter: it should never be necessary to "assign sounds" in Kontakt when using a Sound Set designed for Kontakt in Sibelius. Sibelius will automatically load the required sounds in Kontakt.

What version number of Sibelius are you using?

I'm using Sibelius Ultimate 2025.10 on Windows desktop, so I'm using Kontakt Player 6.

By the way, I've also downloaded VDL template 7.0a.
