I have never encountered this issue, cannot replicate it, and have not seen reports of it. It is often overlooked that for playback of 8va lines, you must start playback before the beginning of the 8va line. Perhaps this is your issue?

This is a "fix" for the wrong issue. Many more 8va lines will give many more opportunities to start playback in different places with correct behaviour since there are more instances of the start of an 8va line.
You can't expect to start playback just anywhere under an 8va line with the assumption that the octave transposition will work, because the flag that triggers 8va playback is encoded at the beginning of the line, and the end of the line turns it off. Similarly, if you click individual notes under an 8va line, they will not play back 8va.
