Sibelius for Android and Chromebooks is here!
Posted by Sam at Sibelius - 23 May 04:47PM
Hi All,

It's with great pleasure I announce the immediate availability of Sibelius for Android and Chromebooks.

This marks the end of a multi-year project for the team to allow Sibelius to run natively on many different mobile devices.

As with the iOS app, it's free to all and runs with the Sibelius First feature set, however if you log in with your Avid account and you have a current license of Sibelius, it will unlock all the features for you. If you have an older version of Sibelius and wish to upgrade (to get this and so much more), head to https://www.avid.com/sibelius/upgrades-and-renewals

To read all about the Android and Chromebook app, please visit the blog, here:

https://www.avid.com/resource-center/introducing-sibelius-for-android

If you have a compatible device (for which we are aiming to support over 8,000!) you can download Sibelius for free form the Google Play Store, here:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avid.sibelius.android

For those who have an iPhone or iPad and haven't yet downloaded Sibelius, a reminder that you can do so from the Apple App Store too:

https://apps.apple.com/app/sibelius/id1503221259

We hope you enjoy the new app, and we can't wait to hear what you get up to.

Sam and the Sibelius team

Congratulations!

This is apparently Sibelius Ultimate 2024.5. Is the current desktop program still 2024.3.1? Is there anything to update if you are using either the desktop or ipad/iPhone versions of Sib Ultimate?

Yeah. That caught my interest too. Will there be a continued discrepancy between the version numbers?

I’m interested in how much the mobile versions are going to be improved. I wanted to be able to use my iPad as a full device to work on outside of my home and office. Will there be full export options(xml, midi, audio)?

Also, will the Sibelius Sounds library be added at any point? I write a lot of marching music and would like the sounds and instruments for drumline.

Echoing what Bob Z is asking: Got an email that says 2024.5 is here. I have Ultimate 2024.3.1 for mac. Do I update or not? Can I do so since I don't see an upload link for 2024.5 in my.avid.com/products#MyProducts?

Am I correct to assume that there is no file format change between 2024.3.1 and 2024.5 that would cause scores created in Android to not be able to be opened in 2024.3.1?

Sorry for the confusing subject line on the email. There isn't an update on desktop or iOS just yet. We have one in the works though. News as we have it.

Bob, indeed, no file format change.

Sibelius is now available on Chromebooks which run the ChromeOS operating system. Does this also include the ability to run on ChromeOS Flex which is their free downloadable version of ChromeOS to run on PC hardware (which doesn't support Play Store)? This would allow running on full-bore systems re CPU power, large monitors and full keyboards.

Also, all of these Chrome and Android systems are based on Linux. Would Avid be at least considering running native on Linux as another option?
