Keypad Rest Issue
Posted by Musix4me - 09 Dec 03:28PM
I'm unsure if this is just my Sibelius, but when I want to enter a quarter rest as the first symbol in the measure, I cannot click the rest after selecting the quarter note.

I am able to use the keyboard number pad.

How to repeat:
Start a new score
Add time signature and key signature
With the mouse, click the quarter note and then the rest on the keypad. The rest is, at this point, unclickable.

It looks like nothing is selected in the score.

Click on a bar in the score. It'll turn blue.

Click on "Input Notes' icon it the "Note Input" tab in the Ribbon. (Your shortcut key will display itself as you hover over the icon.)

NOW click on the "Rest" icon in the Keyboard.

After this your cursor is blue or "loaded" and will input a note as you click in the same bar again at the value of what you've chosen in the Keyboard.

(This is only one way of several to input a rest. See attachment and watch video below.)

Attachment is HUGE for some reason, scroll down to see #1 of 3 moves.

Select the whole measure rest or even the whole empty bar before selecting the quarter note from the keypad. If you select the quarter note first, when you klik in the stave, you get a note rather than a rest. So select the note and hit delete to turn it into a rest. My quick and easy method is to select the measure and hit "4" on my numpad.

Thanks, Richie and Adrian, for the responses. I was reporting that the keypad was not working as expected since they did so much work on it this release.

I can press four and then 0 on my keypad without selecting anything to load my cursor with a rest. That was not the issue. The issue was that it was not working if I clicked the Keypad to do the same.

Hi, Robert. My apologies, I was testing it on my current 2023.8. I'm always late in upgrading in case of new bugs which always seem to happen with development changes. I don't normally have the virtual numpad panel open, as I have my real numpad presses completely reconfigured and committed to memory.

I noticed that issue as well and came here to see if anyone else was talking about it. Glad (?), I guess, to know that it's not just me!

We're looking into this one, probably a bug in the new keypad.
