Conversion from MuseScore
Posted by Steven Edis - 12 Mar 05:04PM
Hello forum, it's been a while.

I may shortly have to prepare on Sibelius some orchestral parts from scores which the composer intends to present as MuseScore files.

Is this going to be possible/easy/a complete pain? What is the best way to convert from MuseScore to Sibelius? Do I need to ask the composer to export her files as .XML or some such format?

Thank you in advance for any advice!

Steve

Use MuseScore to export MuseScore scores to MusicXML.
Use Sibelius to import the MusicXML files.

You can ask the composer to export MusicXML files from MuseScore. Or if this confuses them, you can install MuseScore on your computer and do the conversion yourself. This would give you the advantage of being able to see exactly what the composer saw in case of any questions! For the same reason, a set of PDF exports might save time.

XML transfer isn't perfect, but the actual musical content generally survives!

(Steven, I believe you've been working with my friend Ben Stock. Clever guy, isn't he!)

Thanks both, very much, for the good advice!

(Laurence, yes have done a few things with Ben. He's lovely, and ridiculously talented too.
I've also recently done some deps at Brick Lane Music Hall so we might have overlapping address books in that respect too?)
