* Ability to move objects on one stave without affecting the other when using Dynamic Guitar Staves
* Better default options for tuplets
* New capabilities for our ManuScript plugin language to help automate audio export
* Plus many enhancements, improvements, and fixes across the app

You can read all about these, in the blog:

https://www.avid.com/resource-center/whats-new-in-sibelius-february-2023

This update is available across Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad, and you can grab the update from your account at https://my.avid.com/products

Very nice! ↑

How about some of these ideas?

• Now, you can mix meters with similar pulses per measure vertically in your score as composers have done for hundreds of years.
• You can customize the Quick Start window so you only see the Manuscript papers you use the most.
• Now, you can customize what information appears in the status bar at the bottom of the window. Also, you can right-click certain functions to get a useful menu of related resources.
• You can completely customize your Ribbon experience, even adding new Tabs where you can collect your most used Plugins and other functions.
• We've added a "Check my Score" function that you can customize to check for things like infinite repeat loops and layout errors that Magnetic Layout cannot fix, odd measure, or symbology creation while importing from other formats, etc.
• We've added the ability to create and copy tuplets across barlines.
• We've caught up with the 21st century and now you can see layout adjustments as you make them in the new control panel reducing the popping in and out of menus.

I would like to see, in the "Other goodies" section, a subsection of "Finishing things we left unfinished"

• Now, when you load a slur into your cursor or click it in the lines menu when you click a note, it will actually connect two notes.
• Now, when you make a vertical, contiguous selection across staves and press S, it will connect the slur to the next note instead of hanging it between them.
• Now, when you select a note that has functions attached to it on different Keypad layouts, those layout tabs will turn blue to indicate their usage, as it says in our Help manual.
• We've come to realize we don't need an "Exit Sibelius" button on a "Quick Start" window and removed it.
• We've added the ability to pull notes out of tuplet intervals to another voice.

Anyway. I need to get back to work. But I'm positive there are tens if not hundreds of suggestions people have been making throughout the posts here.

Personally, I think there should be a permanent pinned post (maybe clear it each month) where people can do exactly that: make suggestions.

Easily done already. Export Manuscript Paper of your favourite ones, maybe after making your personal changes. In your user Manuscript Paper folder, put them in a folder called 'aaa'. The category 'Common' seems pinned to the top of the QS page, but yours will be right under it.

My struggle is with how long it takes, when it surely could be programmed to do it automatically.

Another example attached on a piece I'm playing.

The attached is how it looks without any adjustment. Unless I'm missing something obvious (which is likely!), what is the best way to adjust all the slurs and tuplets quickly?

Every time a new update is coming I hope that you have fixed playing of audio/video - but no, not this time either!
If I import an audio file or a video with audio in it and press play, it starts playing for one second, and then starts from the beginning again - before it jumps in sync after some chaos.
I'm now stuck with Sibelius 8.7 (which is the last working version where the sync is ok. I've just renewed my subscription, but It's no point in doing that again if I can't use the new versions.
I've tested this on 4 different computers - with different processors (Amd and Intel) and with windows 10 and windows 11 - all with the same result. I've sent an example file showing how it sounds to support and this has been sent further in to the "system" (the person at support told me this) - but the last update behaved just like the others.
Can't this be fixed?
Or maybe it's the bad weather in Norway that causes this?

It's on our list of things to fix, but we have such a large backlog it hasn't been a priority.

Honesty! I like and appreciate that. ↑

Would it be a poor management decision to skip one of the "New Features" updates and focus purely on catching up? (I don't know. I'm really asking from a business perspective.) I know there is a selling point to continually adding features, it gets the new money rolling, but is it really honest then to present a product riddled with incompleteness and/or bugs that will be fixed only when it becomes a priority?

Personally, as a Sibelius user, since it first came to the United States, I would be delighted to see a major update that did NOTHING ELSE but prioritized incomplete features and/or bugs.

Just sayin'. 🤨

Every release has a mix of new features, bug fixes, and improvements to old features. It doesn't really work that way where we "skip" a release to focus just on bugs, because not all bugs are created equal in terms of the hours it takes to fix them. Indeed, most of the bugs left in Sibelius are the really hard ones that would require massive rewrites to core areas of the code to fix. Until we get new features that would justify such a rewrite, we often leave those bugs in place, as most users have ways around them by now. But as always, if you have a particularly egregious bug that is causing problems, please get in touch, especially by email.

Appreciate the insight.

Sorry to hear that Sibelius' history (from the Finn brothers to Avid purchasing it, to Avid sacking the original team of programmers and planning to drop it, to starting with new team members, etc.) has created such a difficult situation for the current programmers. Maybe one day, somewhere over the rainbow, money will be found to do that rewrite and let you guys create the product you know you could.

With that said, there is a LOT to appreciate about Sibelius as it is. Just seems all the residuals are sometimes fogging up the image.

I like 'Copy and Change Instrument', but I really, really, really wish the operation could include 'Copy Part Layout'. Having to do this in two separate operations is very, very, very time consuming.

Even better, a simple "Duplicate Part" function would be great. I agree!

Developing a new playback library would take a lot of time and money ... this is not a small endeavor. Given that there are so many third VSTs available these days, and the pricing point of Noteperformer which is already fully integrated with Sibelius, I'd prefer a different approach where the use of third parties VSTs is easier, getting rid of the soundset / sound ID architecture. It seemed like a great idea back in the day but the reality is that creating a soundset for a VST is super tedious.

NotePerformer and all other sound libraries rely on it, so it won't be something we remove lightly. With the advent of MIDI2, we can see a path to simplify all this though.

Hi Sam:

Hope you are well. Might be a good idea to have a 'dual' system where people can choose to use the legacy playback system (the current system) or the new playback system that would make it easier to use third party VSTs. That way people who don't want to change their current playback configurations can continue to use them. Always a good idea to not upset something that works (even if not perfectly).

Cheers
Peter

Mapping the various notational objects with MIDI control sequences, key switches, etc., has got to be a tedious task regardless of method used to implement that mapping. I have no idea how this is done in other notation software (or what is going on in the bowels of Sibelius when it interprets the soundsets), but I don't see how the tedium can be avoided.

Hi Peter,

We'll keep the existing systems around so people can upgrade with confidence. Bringing users along with us during these changes is key to us, which wasn't always followed back in the day.

Hi Cygnus,

I've tried posting this in my own thread without luck (error message when trying to reply).

Slurs in Dictionary/Staff Lines/Slur Above&Below:
For Kontakt to detect a legato transition with 16th notes (or shorter) the length of a slurred note needs to be 150%+, however this then adversely affects legato instruments that have an overlap when playing longer notes

It would be more useful if there was also an option to adjust slurred notes by a fixed time (in ms) rather than related to the length of the note.

Taking a bit longer than we had hoped. Qt + Java + Android environment is not a patch on what Apple provide for iOS.

Also agree with the above comments about the playback system generally . It is very cumbersome and the latency when using a midi keyboard is dreadful.

There is no latency associated with the use of a MIDI keyboard.

There is latency associated with the use of any Playback Configuration involving the player device "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth". This latency will be present both on playback and on note entry. This is a Windows issue and there is nothing that Sibelius can do about it.

Whilst you personally might not have an issue with latency I can tell you for a fact that lots of my industry colleagues and I do, regardless of buffer, drivers, system config, hardware and all the other usual easy to blame excuses. The same as the crackling caused when Sibelius has to read a lot of CC data (even with a huge buffer).

FYI; I don't (ever) use the "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth", I have a powerful audio system, am very tech/VI savvy and don't get this issue with any other DAW/Notation program.

The audio engine is dated and needs an update, but I guess that won't happen until the issue is acknowledged; statements like yours don't help.

Sorry, I had to laugh. You are literally arguing with and trying to disparage the leading Sibelius expert on planet Earth. Really. No kidding. #1 guy. Top dude. Knows more than the other 8 billion people.

Your computer specs don't mean squat, this is ancient technology. 99% of the time, keyboard latency is due to somebody not using an ASIO driver etc. I have no latency, have had many many different setups over the years. None.

I am not arguing with anybody; I am stating a perfectly valid point that just because some users (including you and the leading Sibelius expert on planet Earth, #1 guy, Top dude) don't have issues, it doesn't mean that everyone else must therefore be novices who simply don't know what they're doing and laughed at; I left that attitude behind at school 40 years ago!

Computer specs (and I agree ASIO drivers) actually do make a big difference and there is no such thing as zero (no) latency, but I now realise that this is very apparently not the place to post anything, no matter how valid, that doesn't agree with the in-crowd here, otherwise you're instantly dismissed.

I'll leave you in peace to agree with each other!

Not at all. You're simply posting something that has nothing to do with Sibelius. It's simple. Computer specs- my first midi setup had 5 mbs of RAM. Not 5 gigs, 5 mbs! Worked fine.

Sibelius has plenty of room for improvement. And midi is midi. Midi is simple, it's 40 years old. Check the culprits- drivers, audio/midi interface buffers blah blah. It ain't Sibelius.

If you are experiencing latency during MIDI controller keyboard input, please attach screen-shots of the following Sibelius dialogue windows, as they were when the difficulty was being experienced:
1. "Playback Devices";
2. "Audio Engine Options";
3. "Preferences" -> "Input devices".

Is this on macOS or on Windows?
What version of that operating system?
What version number of Sibelius?

Hi there!

Since this update I'm having trouble exporting score and parts to PDF. When I select these options, Sibelius only exports the parts. Then I have to generate the score PDF separatedly and unite then thru another website. It's really annoying!

Anyone else having this issue?

Hi rodfaleiros,

This is a known issue in this release, and will be addressed soon.

Just discovered this problem today while trying to export an orchestra score with all parts as PDF: all I got was a flute part! Hope this gets fixed ASAP!
