Unexpected cresc after dim with fermata
Posted by Mike Lyons - 26 Jun 09:02AM
Hi All,

This issue used to happen a lot, but it's cropping up again.

I am doing an arrangement that ends with a pause, with a drum roll <> and the rest of the instruments playing a dim from pp. At the end of the dim, the fermata causes the playing instruments to cresc. If I remove the pause it doesn't happen, but the ending is too short. It's driving me nuts because I can't remember the solution.

Any help much appreciated!

If you need to export audio, 'write out' the pause as a suitably long note. You can reinstate the pause notation for printing.

What happens if you plant a hidden ppp under the pause in every part?

Hi Laurence. I will try that.

Adrian, that was the first on my list of possible solutions, but it didn't work, unfortunately. Having said that, it has worked on other, similar, occasions. O the vagaries of Sib! :-D

I finally managed a workaround - Instead of a dotted minim, I made a minim tied to a crotchet on all the playing parts, with the fermata on the last note and a hidden ppp I then had to shorten the hairpins to the minim. What a PITA on a long, thickly orchestrated piece. Glad this one's quite thin.
