Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut for erase background (in the inspector)?

I think you would need to create a new text style with the appropriate properties, then apply a shortcut for that.

No - there is no command for the Erase Background field in the Inspector. It might be possible to access it with a macro processor like Keyboard maestro, but otherwise the best you can do is use a shortcut to get to the Inspector and the tab to the Erase background field.

(Edit) actually, there does not appear to be any keyboard access within the Inspector at all, so you can probably get to the Inspector with a shortcut, but then need to mouse to choose Erase background.

This sort of access has been requested for a long time)

But if the inspector (formally, 'Properties') is left open, all the relevant sections open automatically when you select a particular object (e.g. text string) in the score. So only one klik is required to hit 'Erase'. It's a pity tho' that the inspector doesn't shrink to absolute minimum as did 'Properties' when not activated. Just another example of progress gone wrong.

The original inspector in v7 did shrink up. It was apparently a nightmare to maintain that window, so the developers turned it into a normal and fixed size window.

As Adrian says, if the Inspector is open and you select your text object, you will need to use the mouse anyway to check Erase, so you might as well just go there directly with the mouse and click.
