Hi, I've been a Sibelius user for about five years, and used another notation program for about 20 years before that, so am not a stranger to the software. However, I'm up against some weird - and weirdly basic - stuff that I cannot fix.
Inputting notes: one day, the software stopped showing shadow notes. Example: normally, if I open up a document and hit "4," a shadow note will appear and I can place a quarter note on the staff. No longer. Now, the only way I can input notes is to create rests and hit number keys. Which is actually ok as far as it goes, but when things get problematic is when I want to use the filter function to paste in notes in different voices - or input notes from other voices by any method. Because of the absence of the normal note input functionality, inputting notes from different voices has been rendered impossible.
This is an odd situation. I've been reduced to barely being able to use Sibelius, and for the life of me, cannot figure out how to fix the problem. At this point I've not tried completely uninstalling/reinstalling the software, however am hoping that there is a simpler solution.
Seems to work OK for me, Corbin, tho' in recent upgrades of Sib, shadowing and attachment lines are ridiculously faint to the point of almost invisibility. Hmm, just noticed there's a connection there (invi-SIB-le).
Big Sur (latest version - 11.2.3) &
Sibelius (latest version - 2021.2)
It's not only that the shadow notes are invisible; they're completely gone, to the point of zero functionality.
If I hit N and then numbers on the qwerty keyboard, there is corresponding action on the keypad: 1-6 will show 32nd note through whole note; 7 for natural sign, etc - that all works fine, inasmuch as those commands show up on the keypad. But that's as far as it goes. In the actual score, functionality for note input is dead.
Hi thanks for your suggestion. Alas no, it's not locked in Review Mode. This problem so far has persisted through an update download (to 2021.2) and multiple restarts of the computer and software. I've also tested it in brand new documents, as well as scores I've already started.
Howdy! I realize this is an old topic, but I found a solution for me. It was actually in the "Mouse" section of File -> Preferences. For "Mouse Note Input", I had selected "Moves caret". I had to change back to "Inputs notes" instead. With the "Moves caret" option, I suppose you don't need a shadow note, because you're not going to be inputting notes with the mouse.
