Sib. 7.1.3: Other styles for figured bass
Posted by Richard Mix - 19 Oct 10:14PM
I thought it would be a short task to put in some of Caccini's figuring, but while I can see a little space between 4 3 makes sense, 1 0, 1 1, 1 4 are much less elegant and I get a slightly better result from Technique than from Lyric in the attached. Have other users here customized their own text styles for figured bass?

Hi there

In general, it's best to use the Figured bass text style, but change the font it uses. The Opus Figured Std font only has glyphs with accidentals up to 9 (though not accidentals on the 8).

For more comprehensive figures, you might want to have a look at the open-source font Figurato (a write-up with links etc is here). There are some others out there that include numbers up to 10 or higher, a search will turn them up.

If you stick with the default Opus font, it might be useful (per your other message) to know how it is configured. The numbers with accidentals are are mapped to the qwerty keys in the following way:

Numerals with naturals are all on the top row in sequence, from W=2 through to O= 9. The natural sign is on the right of the numeral, but if you use shift with the letter, you get the natural on the left of the numeral.

The middle row is for sharps: S=2 to L=9. Again, the sharp is on the right, but adding the shift key puts it on the left of the numeral.

The bottom row is for flats: X=2 to . = 9. Add shift to put the flat on the left of the numeral.

The other glyphs (slashed numerals, etc) are scattered here and there, so it's easiest to use the right-click menu to find these.

Hope that helps
Jeremy
