Windows 10

Groups- I would like to place the groups of Symbols I use most at the top of the vertical list, and arrange the least used at the bottom.

How is this done?
Will a rearrangement forever show that way for every score?
Is Symbols arrangement part of House Style?

Single- Two symbols I created appeared at the bottom of the list in 'User defined'.
How do I move these 2 to the Common group at the top?

Can I move the symbols I don't use out of Common to another group?

One of the few positive features of the Ribbon Symbols Gallery is that recently-used ones automatically move into the Used section, at the top of the Gallery. Almost, but not quite, enough to make me re-re-assign my Z shortcut to the Gallery rather than to the old Symbols menu!

Apart from that, I don't think there's much you can do. But it may be enough to satisfy you?

Right. But I can't ever make them permanently in Symbols for every score?
So for each new score I must copy/paste my 5 (to date) new symbols from an existing score into page 1 of my new score before beginning to work?
Or create a new House Style that includes my new symbols, but will not be appropriate for all scores (so I must remake a new House Style for these others anyway)?

Sorry - and I am sorry - this is not enough.
Everything else is adjustable, most of which we never use, but not Symbols which we use all the time. Stupid.
Symbols is a stupendous waste of time and brain attention, forever scrolling down thru groups I will never use trying to find things I don't know where they are. Then scrolling back up and down again when I miss them.


Can I store my new symbols in Ideas and get them quickly when I need them?

You could try assigning them each a Keyboard Shortcut..

The standard method of making user-edited stuff available in a new score is indeed to save a House Style or a Manuscript Paper. It's not a lot of trouble.

The Gallery (the huge window that opens from the Ribbon rather than the much more compact Symbols menu - which however remains available as detailed in my FAQ reference above) isn't ALL bad. As mentioned, frequently-used items will float to the 'Used' section, at the top. And user-created Symbols will always be in the 'User-defined' section, which can be selected for exclusive display. See that button at the top of the Symbols gallery that says 'All'? (See attached screenshot.) Click it. There are other options. ('User-defined' will only be offered if there ARE some user-defined Symbols in the score though.)
