Sib. 7.5: Audio engine changes?
Posted by Michael Kilpatrick - 25 Feb 08:24PM
In relation to this thread of mine from a littl while back:

https://www.sibelius.com/cgi-bin/helpcenter/chat/chat.pl?com=thread&start=739107&groupid=3

Just today on starting Sibelius 7.5 up again I found that in the Audio Engine Options the Interface had been changed to "Generic Low Latency ASIO..." for no reason and Sibelius was throwing all sorts of errors about my Coolsoft VirtualMIDISynth. There have been on Windows updates or whatever in the last day or so since I last used Sibelius.

Bit of a weird gremlin here?

I've changed it back to "Speakers (Realtek High definition (MME)" and it's fine again.

Michael

I repeat what I advised you in your earlier thread:

Also, Sibelius will fail with the two following incompatible settings being made simultaneously:

1. a Playback Configuration including any MIDI-based player device (such as, for instance, Coolsoft VirtualMIDISynth)

with

2. in Audio Engine Options, any "Interface" setting involving "ASIO".

Your observed problem arises precisely from those two incompatible settings being made at the same time. Change one or the other, or both, to avoid the problematic combination.

The question rather remains: what exactly made my computer change these settings? Neither Coolsoft, Sibelius nor Windows had had any updates installed since I last used Sibelius two days ago!

I shall locate those drivers and get rid of them this time, if I can.

Ah, but it's not at all obvious where I find those drivers.

Like Robin said, stay away from the Steinberg generic low latency driver ... it creates all kinds of crazy stuff (even with Dorico, lol). Better to use the ASIO4all driver or the dedicated ASIO driver that comes with your soundcard, if you have one.

The drivers are installed on your computer, you can find them in your audio settings (drop down menu). Just pick the one that works best for you.
