In fact, in the first attempts to run the Sibelius (2019.9) I received an error message and the Sibelius closed. But something changed (I don't know what) when I clicked on "save log". The Sibelius closed like other times, but a when I tried to run again it ran.
P.S.
The same problem happened again the next day (after turning off the computer). In this time I closed the error message. When I tried to run Sibelius again it ran. So I still don't know what is causing him to crash on the first attempt to run.
P.P.S
I found the problem. It's not Sibelius. It crashes when try to load EastWest Play AU. So, I think the solution is to wait an EastWest update that solves the problem.
AFAIK, Catalina will only run 64 bit apps. Sib sounds is still only 32 bit. This will cause problems.

I did't test the installation, but the Sibelius Sounds (and other libraries, like EastWest's) that was already installed before update is working.
But my intention is not to encourage users to update macOS now. This topic is only to help who already updated (or who need to update por some reason).
I’ve been using Sibelius Ultimate 2019.9 on Catalina, both betas and the release version, since beta 7 and have had zero problems.

I know. I'm already using version 6.1.4, but it still crashes sometimes. I think the crashes have something to do with some libraries. Each library installs a different shortcut for the Play. Some work while others crashes (on both, standalone and AU on Sibelius). Sometimes it crashed while opening Sibelius (while it was loading the plugins). Upgrading or reinstalling did not resolve the problem.
After update, and after try to reinstall, I tried to uninstall the Play (because it was crashing every time I open Sibelius, again...). The uninstallation cleaned all the Play shortcuts. So I reinstalled it, and now I have only the main Play shortcut on applications folder. I don't know if this made some difference, but it stopped crashing, and it is working now (for a while...).
Perhaps the problem was some remnant of the previous installation, but I'm not sure.
I thought at first it was fine (to my surprise, as I'm still on Sibelius 7.1.3, but it's continued to do everything I need... until now) but today I've discovered two minor things that seem to be broken:
1. Exporting score as PDF: wherever I tell it to save the PDF, it actually ends up in the Scores folder;
2. Inserting lyrics from text file: doesn't work at all (the whole thing just freezes immediately and I have to force-quit)
This topic is about compatibility with macOS 10.15. According to Sibelius Operating System Compatibility Chart, the version 7.1.3 was supported (officially) only on macOS 10.6–10.9.
My comment *was* about compatibility with Mac OS 10.15. I know my version of Sibelius has not been supported for a while, but it did still work perfectly before 10.15. I thought it might be useful to someone to know which bits have just stopped working. Don't worry, I will think twice before trying to be helpful in future!

It's all right, Jocelyn Lavin, don't worry. I was just confirming (I had not understood what OS you was using, and Sibelius 7.1.3 is not officially supported after macOS 10.9, so I was in doubt). Good to know that old Sibelius versions sill works on new macOS versions even after has ended.
So, as I was saying, about the issues you reported... The first option would be a problem with 32-bits. I'm not sure, but perhaps Sibelius 7.3.1 64-bits runs some 32-bits plugins (like PDF export and lyrics text import). Than if Sibelius is 64-bits, but plugins 32-bits, Sibelius could work on Catalina, but plugins don't.
At least the main is working. Thank you to share the information.
What happens? Will Sibelius not open at all? Or edit/save files? Or is it just a problem with the sounds? If it is the sounds - can we use the midi sounds with no problem in Catalina?

The problem was with the third-party virtual instruments (in this case, EastWest's) loading at startup. Apparently Sibelius Sounds was working normally (if you have any problems I recommend upgrading to version 7.5.1 which fixed some bugs). But the problem has already been solved. If possible, update Sibelius to the current version (2020.6).
I'm sure you all know by now, but, Sibelius 7.5.1 can no longer export videos with Catalina. I don't know if this is an Avid issue or an Apple issue but people have had it since at LEAST November 2019 and I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed.
So, I'd say that no, Sibelius does *not* work perfectly with Catalina.
> So, I'd say that no, Sibelius does *not* work perfectly with Catalina.
Of course! Obsolete versions of Sibelius such as 7.5 do not work correctly with Catalina. This will never be fixed. The fixes needed for Catalina and Big Sur are contained within the most recent versions of Sibelius.
Catalina requires Sibelius version 2019.9 or higher.
Big Sur requires Sibelius 2020.6 or higher.

Obsolete? Sibelius 7.5 works perfectly, it's Catalina's (seemingly) arbitrary decision to only support 64-bit apps that's the problem. I may just be ignorant (as most times it turns out I am lol) but I don't believe I should have to shell out $200 to upgrade a program that doesn't functionally need upgrading simply because my operating system decided not to support it. Looks like its back to High Sierra for me XD
In fairness, I don't think any software designer can guarantee that any given version of their programs will continue to run flawlessly on all future iterations of all operating systems. In that sense, software may well become "obsolete" as Robin says.
At least they should ensure that future program updates are compatible with prevailing operating system versions at the time, as Avid/Sibelius have done.
If one doesn't want to update one's program versions, one has the choice not to update one's operating system if there's a compatibility issue.
You have correctly identified the culprit here as Apple.
I am glad I am with Microsoft Windows who are making it smooth for people who wish to run legacy software versions (i.e. 32-bit). I am still using one piece of software I bought in 2000: I ran it then under Windows 98, but it still goes along perfectly under Windows 10 in 2021!
I am also running Sibelius 6.2 absolutely fine here under my fully updated Windows 10 installation.
Thank you Windows! I made the right choice of OS so many years ago, before I realised I was a person who often prefers legacy software/versions. If you don't, I'm sure Apple is wonderful, and indeed I love my iPhone and don't like Google's Android.
