Sib. 7.1.3: Inputting piano part both hands at once
Posted by abr88 - 01 Jul 03:56PM
Is it necessary to input the two staves separately? It seems like there should be a way for Sibelius to receive piano input and dole it out to the most likely distribution between hands. And to move a note from one of the 2 staves to the other with its pitch intact. And maybe there is and I (beginner) just don't know about it. Thanks.

You can do this in Flexi-time, but not in step-time input.

Pls see p 257 Sib 7.1.3 pdf ref man:

"Flexi-time

Keyboard Staves: when inputting onto two staves, the split point determines which notes go into each staff (notes on or above the split point go into the top staff, and notes below go into the bottom staff). If you choose Automatic, Sibelius will guess where your hands are on the keyboard at any time and assign notes to staves accordingly. Alternatively, you can specify your own Fixed split point. (Note that in Sibelius, middle C is called C4 – which may be different from how it is described in other music programs.)"

Thanks Bob

This is not done in Step-time input, but rather in Flexi-time as a metronome is ticking . . . .

Don't worry, you can slow the metronome down to a manageable speed :-)

I would read the section in the Sib Reference Manual on Flexi-time:
Section 3.14
p. 252

To "split" the dividing point for the bass and treble Grand Staff, push the Note Input tab on the top ribbon in Sibelius and select the little SE pointing arrow to the right of Flexi-time.

Press the Notation tab and at the bottom left is where you change your "split-point" as in the screenshot attached.

Push the "Fixed:" radio button and make your choice.
========
If you want to write the notes in one staff in normal Step-time input and later split them there's a cool plugin called: Change Split Point

Select one of the piano staffs (treble or bass) and Shift+click the other and type " Change Split Point" into the search box in the upper-right of the Sibelius window.

The plugin is pretty intuitive and requires little explanation.
