GPO Sibelius Edition crossgrade
This is a crossgrade to allow existing users of Sibelius 4 and the stand-alone Garritan Personal Orchestra to upgrade to Garritan Personal Orchestra (Sibelius Edition).
System requirements
Requires 2GB hard disk space (in addition to Sibelius 4); Windows XP (or some Windows 2000 configurations); Mac OS X 10.2.8 or later; DVD drive; Sibelius 4.1 or later. Additionally:
- Scores that use up to about 8 different sounds: Mac G4/G5 processor, Windows 1.8GHz processor or faster, 1GB+ RAM (1.5GB+ recommended), preferably ASIO-compatible sound card.
- Scores that use up to about 20 different sounds: Mac G5 processor, Windows 2.5GHz processor or faster, 1.5GB RAM. ASIO-compatible sound card strongly recommended (not sound chip on motherboard), preferably separate graphics card.
- Scores that use reverb or more than 20 different sounds will need a faster processor and more RAM.
Before you install
- Make sure you have updated to Sibelius 4.1. To check, choose Help > Check For Updates in Sibelius: you will be told whether or not you need to download an update.
- Make sure you have Kontakt Silver already installed. To check, choose Help > About Sibelius (in the Sibelius menu on Mac) and check that the words Kontakt 6.3 appear in the black bar at the bottom of the window. If you don't have Kontakt Silver installed:
- Windows: Insert your Sibelius 4 CD-ROM and choose Install Kontakt Silver from the menu that appears, then follow the on-screen instructions.
Installing GPO Sibelius Edition for Windows
- Double-click the GPO Sibelius Edition installer you have downloaded.
- Click Next, then I Accept.
- You will be prompted for a serial number, which has been emailed to you. (If you have not received your serial number, or have lost it, click here.) This is not the serial number you received with your original copy of Garritan Personal Orchestra: it is the special serial number we have sent to you by email.
- Installation will use the same location as your existing Kontakt Silver or Gold installation. Click Next.
- Adjust the name/location of the Start menu icon group, if you can be bothered, then click Next.
- A progress bar will appear as everything is installed to your hard drive.
- You will be told that installation has completed successfully. Click Finish.
- Now locate your original Garritan Personal Orchestra installation files using Windows Explorer. If you accepted the default installation location they will be at C:\Program Files\Garritan Personal Orchestra\GPO Library
- Select the three large .nks files in there called GPO_Library_part1.nks, GPO_Library_part2.nks, and GPO_Library_part3.nks at the same time, by holding down the Ctrl key as you select each one
- Choose Edit > Cut (shortcut Ctrl+C) for this selection of files, then navigate to where the SibeliusSilverLib.nks file is located (by default, this will be either C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt Player Sibelius\Sibelius Library or C:\Program Files\Native Instruments\Sibelius Player\Sibelius Library). Click in the folder alongside SibeliusSilverLib.nks and choose Edit > Paste (shortcut Ctrl+V) to move the three large GPO .nks files here from their original location.
- Now GPO Sibelius Edition is properly installed! However, when you next run the original GPO application (i.e. not from within Sibelius), it will tell you that it "could not open its content file". It allows you to select a different directory for these files, so click Yes to that option in the warning dialog, and then navigate in the Browse For Folder dialog to the folder where you just copied the .nks files. GPO should now work both in Sibelius and in its original incarnation.

- A progress bar will appear as everything is installed to your hard drive.
- You will be told that installation has completed successfully. Click Quit.
- Now locate your original Garritan Personal Orchestra installation files using the Finder. If you accepted the default installation location they will be at /Applications/Garritan Personal Orchestra/GPO Library
- Select the three large .nks files in there called GPO_Library_part1.nks, GPO_Library_part2.nks, and GPO_Library_part3.nks at the same time, by holding down the Command (Apple) key as you select each one
- Choose Edit > Cut (shortcut Command-C) for this selection of files, then navigate to where the SibeliusSilverLib.nks file is located (by default, this will be either /Applications/Kontakt Player Sibelius/Sibelius Library or /Applications/Sibelius Player/Sibelius Library). Click in the folder alongside SibeliusSilverLib.nks and choose Edit > Paste (shortcut Command-V) to move the three large GPO .nks files here from their original location.
- You also need to cut or copy the Multis folder from GPO Library, and the Wet and Dry folders from inside the Instruments folder in GPO Library and paste them all into the Sibelius Library/Instruments folder, if you want to continue using your original GPO application.
