Sir Colin Southgate appointed Chairman of Sibelius

Sir Colin Southgate, ex-EMI chairman, has been appointed Chairman of the board of Sibelius Software Limited, producer of the leading technology for composing and publishing music. Sir Colin's experience across both the music and technology industries will support Sibelius as the company integrates existing online publishing activity with new Internet ventures.

As chairman, Sir Colin will provide strategic advice to the company's co-founders, brothers Ben and Jonathan Finn, who currently run the business as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technical Officer.

Commenting on his appointment, Sir Colin said: "The Internet is revolutionizing sheet music publishing, broadening the market's reach and appeal. Using Sibelius' technology, people are logging on to the web and can receive printed music instantly via their computer printer."

Ben Finn, Chief Executive Officer of Sibelius Software, added: "We saw the Internet coming and recognized a fantastic opportunity for overcoming the difficulties associated with sheet music publishing. We've already provided a solution to the process of buying sheet music, but Sir Colin's objective view and industry experience will ensure that we continue to develop the software and reach the widest audience possible."
