Meteoric piano talent Mei-Ting Sun chooses Sibelius
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.—Piano virtuoso and Sibelius user Mei-Ting Sun came to New York from Shanghai at nine years old. In 1996, he was named one of the “Musicians of the Year” by the Village Voice for his performance of the Op. 10 Etudes of Chopin. At age 14, his performance of Ravel’s Concerto in G at Alice Tully Hall was praised by the New York Times as a “stunningly fluid reading.”
Now 24, Sun has toured Spain, France, Italy, China and Japan and played with symphonies in Canada, Hong Kong and Macau. He has been featured on WQXR (NY) Classical Radio’s “Young Artist Showcase” and NPR’s “Performance Today” program and was the 2002 Winner of the International Piano-e-Competition. In March, Sun won the 2005 National Chopin Piano Competition and in September will travel to Warsaw to represent the United States in the International Chopin Competition. His first prize from the National Chopin Competition also includes $20,000 in cash; a June 13 performance at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; and a 20-city statesidetour, arranged by the competition, which includes a June 12 recital at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Currently, Sun is a C.V. Star Doctoral Fellow at The Juilliard School of Music.
Sun’s notation software of choice? Sibelius.
“I've been using Sibelius since Version 1.2, and its elegance of design, simplicity in form and intuitiveness in controls has made it one of my favorite musical programs of all time,” says Sun. “Working with Sibelius is like working with the most responsive instrument - it does everything I want it to do, when I want, where I want and how I want it.”
Sun’s newest project, whitekeys.com, is an outreach program designed to promote classical piano music among teenagers by making quality recordings available online at no charge. When you have a moment, check it out at www.whitekeys.com.
To date, there are more than 100,000 Sibelius users worldwide, including television composer Alf Clausen, musician Pat Metheny, composer Sammy Nestico, choral composer John Rutter, guitarist Andy Summers and conductor Michael Tilson-Thomas.Notes to editors
