Sibelius has revolutionised the way music is composed, transcribed and published through its pioneering technology, which removes the need for pen and ink and allows the user to write compositions directly into a PC.
It is used extensively in the music industry by acclaimed musicians such as Björk, Andy Summers, George Martin and the late Ray Charles and has been influential in the production of film and television scores including Bridget Jones, Notting Hill, James Bond and Band of Brothers.
Since its founding in 1993 Sibelius has become the global industry standard for aiding and enhancing the teaching of music composition from beginners to degree level and enabling teachers of all musical levels to fulfil curriculum requirements in over 50% of UK schools.
Recent innovations in Sibelius's software products have included an internet version allowing musicians at different locations to collaborate on joint compositions and playback facilities enabling compositions to be heard on a variety of simulated instruments.
Jeremy Silver, CEO, Sibelius commented:
“We're thrilled to have won The Queen's Award. It's a huge surprise and a great honour. Innovation is a central part of what we do. More than anything else, our objective is to create technology that gets out of the way, letting people get on with the really important work of teaching, learning and being creative whether it's the professional composer or the musical beginner.”
