“I was blown away by the level
of talent last year. I’m very much looking forward
to judging this year's trail-blazers”
Howard Goodall,
Competition judge and spokesperson
Entries are now closed - public voting is coming soon
Thank you to all the students who submitted an entry, and to the teachers who encouraged them to do so. We’ve had so many great entries and can’t wait to start the judging process.
What happens now?
A shortlist for each genre and age category will be announced mid-November and published on www.sibelius.com/studentcomposer.
At that point you, friends and family, and anyone else will be able to vote online for their favourite entries from the shortlists. The totals from this online voting will carry the same weight as the choices of one of the star judges, and will be combined with their choices to find the overall winners. These will be announced during December. And the winning pieces will be performed at an awards ceremony at the Royal Academy of Music on Thursday February 12th.
Provided you’ve registered for the competition you will receive email updates at each stage of the judging. If you didn’t register, don’t worry. Simply sign up for our regular email newsletter Sibelius World to keep up-to-date.
Thank you again for supporting the competition.
What file formats are accepted?
You don't have to use Sibelius to enter this competition; we accept music created in any program. All we ask is that you provide entries in one of the following formats:
- Sibelius (.sib) file - any version, including Sibelius Student. Note: Entries in the Film category should upload the video clip they have used alongside the .sib file. Our web upload system allows this
- MP3 (minimum 128k quality recommended)
- AAC (minimum 128k quality recommended)
- You can easily create MP3 and AAC files from other audio formats such as the .WAV files using the free iTunes software from Apple and many other free programs. Unfortunately, non-compressed formats such as .WAV are too big to upload.
- Quicktime (.mov) - Film genre entries only
- WMV - Film genre entries only
- AVI - Film genre entries only
- MP4 - Film genre entries only
(Please do not supply mpeg 1 or 2 files)
