Updating to Sibelius 5.2 from Sibelius 5.0

Here are installation instructions for Windows and Mac.

If you are currently running Sibelius 5.1, not Sibelius 5.0, you should follow these installation instructions instead.

It is recommended that you do not update your copy of Sibelius in the middle of a project.

Installing the update on Windows

  • Quit Sibelius 5.
  • In order to install Sibelius 5.2, you must first uninstall Sibelius 5.0. Open Control Panel, and double-click Add/Remove Programs (Windows XP) or Programs and Features (Windows Vista). In the window that appears, select Sibelius 5, then click Change/Remove (Windows XP) or Uninstall (Windows Vista).
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall Sibelius 5.0.
  • The file you have downloaded is a self-extracting archive containing the files necessary to install Sibelius 5.2. Double-click the downloaded Sibelius52English.exe file to begin installation.
  • You will be asked if you want to install Sibelius 5.2; click Yes.
  • A progress bar appears as the installation components are extracted.
  • If you do not have Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed, you will be prompted to install it before installation can continue.
  • If you do not have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 installed, you will be prompted to install it before installation can continue.
  • Follow the simple on-screen steps to install the software. When the installer completes, you will find a Sibelius 5 shortcut on your desktop.
  • Once the installation has completed, you can delete the downloaded Sibelius52English.exe file if you wish, though you may want to e.g. burn it to CD-ROM to avoid having to download it again in future.

Now run Sibelius 5.2. Choose About Sibelius from the Help menu, and check the version number: it should read Version 5.2.0 build 188.

Installing the update on a Mac

Important! After installing the Sibelius 5.2 update on Mac, you will have to re-register Sibelius. Although you should be able to register online with no problems, it is recommended that you do not install this update outside of office hours or during the weekend so that you can contact technical support in order to re-register your copy of Sibelius by phone or email.

  • Quit Sibelius 5.
  • If your web browser doesn't automatically mount the downloaded disk image, double-click it to mount it.
  • A Sibelius 5.0 to 5.2 Update English volume icon will appear on your desktop: double-click it to open it.
  • Double-click the Sibelius 5.0 to 5.2 Updater icon inside the mounted volume.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update. Make sure you choose the volume on which Sibelius 5.0 is installed.
  • Run Sibelius 5 by double-clicking its icon in your Applications folder.
  • You will be told that Sibelius 5.2 has already been installed for 15 days on this computer, and that you need to register. Click OK.
  • The Register Sibelius dialog will appear. Select the On the Internet option and click Next.
  • You will either be told that Sibelius has been registered on this computer before (in which case click OK), or that you are registering Sibelius on a second computer, and asked to confirm that this copy will be used only by you (in which case click Yes). Click Finish in the next page of the dialog, and you will then be told that Sibelius has been successfully registered.
  • If you are told that there is a registration problem, or registration over the Internet fails for any reason, please contact technical support.
  • Sibelius 5.2 will now run. Choose About Sibelius from the Sibelius menu, and check the version number: it should read Version 5.2.0 build 188.
