613: Registering Sibelius on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard introduces a number of new security features that have an impact on how Sibelius must be registered on the latest version of Apple's operating system.
Sibelius 6
You may see the following error message when you attempt to enter your serial number or register the program:
Error: 150000 (ERR_AUTH_GENERAL)
Alternatively, you may find that Sibelius 6 fails to start at all, or that shortly after launching the application, it unexpectedly quits.
If you encounter problems launching or registering Sibelius 6 on Mac OS X 10.6, please ensure that you are running Sibelius 6.1 or later.
You can download the Sibelius 6.1 update here.
Sibelius 5, Sibelius 4, Sibelius First, Sibelius Student
When you first run Sibelius 5, Sibelius 4, Sibelius First or Sibelius Student, you are prompted to enter your serial number. You may find that immediately after entering your serial number, you see the following error message:
The serial number of this copy of Sibelius is corrupted. Please contact technical support quoting this code:
This error message may or may not be followed by a code number.
To successfully enter your serial number and register Sibelius:
- Open a new Finder window
- Navigate to the Library folder in the root of your hard disk; be sure to go to this folder, and not the Library folder in your user's home folder
- Navigate to the Application Support folder inside the Library folder
- Select the Sibelius Software folder inside Application Support, if it exists; if it does not exist, select the Application Support folder itself
- Right-click the selected folder and choose Get Info (or type Command-I) to show the Get Info window
- Expand the Sharing & Permissions heading, if it is not already expanded
- Click the little padlock in the bottom right-hand corner of the window to unlock these settings; you will be asked to provide your administrator password
- Check that the permissions for system and admin are set to Read & Write, and if they are not set correctly, change these settings
- Click the little cog icon at the bottom left, and from the menu that appears, choose Apply to enclosed items, and click Yes when asked to confirm
- Click the padlock again to prevent further settings, then close the Get Info window
Now run Sibelius and you should find that your serial number is accepted without any further error messages, allowing you to register as normal.
Sibelius 3, G7 and earlier
We are not aware of any problems with registering Sibelius 3 or G7 on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. If you encounter any problems, you are advised to use the procedure for Sibelius 5 above.
Important notice regarding support
Please note that only versions of Sibelius from Sibelius 6 onwards are officially supported on Mac OS X 10.6 or later.
For Sibelius 5 and earlier, and other products such as Sibelius First, Sibelius Student, and discontinued products such as G7, support for Mac OS X 10.6 and later is limited, and there is no guarantee that these earlier versions of Sibelius will run without problems on operating systems that were released substantially later than they were released.
