550: Sibelius 5 hangs on the splash screen while 'Creating Tool Window: Video'

If Sibelius does not load completely, and hangs on the splash screen while loading with the message Creating Tool Window: Video remaining at the bottom of the splash screen (what does this look like?), it may be that Sibelius is unable to initialize QuickTime on your computer.

Solution 1:

Download and install the latest version of QuickTime from Apple’s website.

Please note: only the free QuickTime player is required; it is not necessary to purchase an upgrade to QuickTime Pro.

Solution 2:

• Download this archive: DisableQuicktime.zip
• Open the archive and double-click the resulting Disable QuickTime.reg file to add its information to your Registry. If you're having problems opening the archive, click here to get more information
• When asked if you want to proceed, click Yes
• Try to open Sibelius 5 again: it should run without problems.

Please note: this will only stop Sibelius from using QuickTime; it does not change QuickTime itself, or any other programs on your computer.
