526: Using Microsoft Autoruns to help Sibelius 5
Below is a description of how to manually disable conflicting dlls that are causing Sibelius 5 to crash on start-up. We have built a tool to do this automatically, which you can find here:
Problem:
We are aware of some compatibility issues with running other applications and Sibelius 5 at the same time which results in Sibelius closing down.
The symptoms include crashing when ever a Save or Open dialog box is opened or getting the following error message when starting Sibelius:
Application failed to initialise: 0xc0000005
Application failed to initialise: 0xc00000142
RunTime Error: R6031
Sibelius has stopped working
On Windows Vista, the 0xc error code may not appear and you might get this error message:
Sibelius has stopped working...
Solution:
- Download the autoruns program from Microsoft Sysinternals
- Download and install the application found at the top right of the web page.
- Double click autoruns.exe and click YES or OK.
- In the 'AppInit' tab, look for any entries, and uncheck them.
- After making this setting close this window and try launching Sibelius.
This prevents programs from hooking into every application that runs, whilst still functioning correctly.
If you are still having problems please email technical support.
