88: Key signatures - changing key in particular staves only

Sibelius 2 (and later) includes support for multiple simultaneous key signatures. See Key signatures in your Sibelius User Guide for details. If you haven't yet got the latest version of Sibelius, get an upgrade.

In Sibelius 1.x, you can use the following workaround to change keys for some instruments only:

  1. Input the key change as normal, which will go into all instruments
  2. Then delete the key change just from those staves for which you don't want it. To delete a key change from a single staff:
    • if the key changes at a barline, ensure there's at least one note in the relevant staff in the preceding bar, then delete the preceding bar (click in the bar on the relevant staff and type Delete). Then reinput any notes in the preceding bar which should have been there. (You can, of course, copy the bar somewhere else first so you can copy it back after deleting it.)
    • if the key change is mid-bar, do the same as above but for the bar in which the key changes, not the preceding bar.

This all works correctly for both transposing and non-transposing instruments. It is not, however, possible to allow simultaneous key changes to different keys.
