86: Beams - do not display correctly on screen

If you find that angled beams do not display correctly on your screen, but do print correctly, you can try this:

In Sibelius 4: Go to the File > Preferences menu and click on Display. Here you can change the Smoothing options. The Faster settings will probably work better on older computers/graphics cards and the Smoother option will look better on screen if your graphics card is capable of higher performance options.

In Sibelius 3: Go to the View > Smoothing... and move the slider. The Faster setting will probably work better on older computers/graphics cards and the Smoother option will look better on screen if your graphics card is capable of higher performance options.

In previous versions of Sibelius, or if you are still having problems with beams try slowing down the hardware acceleration on your graphics card. To do this:

  • Right-click on My Computer
  • Choose Properties from the pop-up menu that appears
  • Click the Performance tab in the dialog box that is displayed
  • Click the Graphics button
  • Drag the slider all the way to the left (No acceleration)
  • Click OK

You should now find that your beams display correctly. If the problem persists, contact the manufacturer of your graphics card and enquire about updated drivers.
