84: Blank or title page - how to create

Sibelius 3 or higher allows you to add a title page automatically in the New Score dialog. This can only be done when creating a new score.

In Sibelius 5 you can add a title page at any time by going to Create, Title page. To add a blank page anywhere in the score go to Layout, Break, Special Page Break. If you haven't yet got the latest version of Sibelius, get an upgrade.

Sibelius 2 includes a number of manuscript papers with blank title pages already created for you. If you need to create a title page yourself:

  1. Create a single empty bar at the beginning of your score (Shift-Command-B or Ctrl+Shift+B and then click before the initial barline).
  2. Select the bar line at the end of your new bar 1 and:
    • In Sibelius 2 (and higher): open the Bars panel of the Properties window
    • In Sibelius 1.x: type Command-I or Alt+Enter to access the Bar Properties dialog box
  3. Switch on Page break and Section end. This will force your original first bar onto the second page of your score.
  4. Choose Create > Bar Number Change and renumber the first bar of your piece (i.e. the first bar with music in it) as bar 1.
  5. In the House Style > Engraving Rules (File > House Style in Sibelius 1.x) dialog, choose the Instruments page and switch on Instrument Names - at new section
  6. Make the empty bar at the start of your score invisible:
    • In Sibelius 3 (and higher): choose Create > Other > Staff Type Change > Pitched > No lines (hidden)
    • In Sibelius 2: choose Create > Staff Type Change > Pitched > No lines (hidden)
    • In Sibelius 1.x: Create > Staff Type Change > No lines (hidden), then click Create
  7. Click before the initial barline of the empty bar. Repeat as necessary for other instruments.
  8. Make the beginning of your piece (on page 2) visible again by inserting a staff type change back to 5 lines (as above). Repeat as necessary for other instruments.
  9. Choose Create > Text > Title, then click on your blank page and type, then arrange as required.
