69: Yamaha XG devices - accessing full range of sounds

Some Yamaha devices (such as the SW1000XG soundcard) use a proprietary form of the General MIDI standard called XG which includes additional sounds.

If your MIDI device supports XG sounds, you can access them automatically as follows:

  • In Sibelius 5: choose Play > Playback Devices and set the Sound Set column, on the right, to Yamaha XG for your playback device.
  • In Sibelius 4: choose Play > Playback and Input Devices and set the Sound Set column to Yamaha XG for your playback device.
  • In Sibelius 3 (and Sibelius 2): choose Play > Devices and set the Sound set column to Yamaha XG for your playback device.
  • In Sibelius 1.x: choose Play/Flexi-time > Equipment and set the Patch column to X-General MIDI for your playback device.
