634: Error installing or updating Sibelius

If the Sibelius installer fails halfway through, it could be due to two main reasons:

Uninstall previous installations of Sibelius:

If you are reinstalling Sibelius, the installer may fail due to the original version already being installed. The error message you get when the installer fails should point to this. To be safe, uninstall any previous versions of Sibelius you have installed:

On Windows, you can do this from Start, Control Panel, Programs and Features (or Add or Remove Programs on Windows XP).

On Mac, simply drag the Sibelius application from the Applications folder into the Trash. Now try the installer again.

If you're updating Sibelius, check the website for instructions on whether you are required to uninstall Sibelius before running the updater (e.g. as in the case of Sibelius 5.0 on Windows):

Check if the DVD is damaged:

Take the DVD out of the DVD drive and check it for any scratches or cracks. If it is damaged, there's no need to get a replacement, you can download the Sibelius installer from here:

Sibelius 5:

If the DVD looks OK, put it back into the computer and copy the installer on to your Desktop:

Windows:

On Windows, go to Start, Computer (or My Computer on Windows XP). Right Click on the DVD drive and choose Explore. Drag the Sibelius folder onto your Desktop. If this fails then the DVD is damaged. You can download the full installer from the links above, which will save you waiting for a new one in the post.

If copying the Sibelius folder is successful, open the new Sibelius folder that will now be on your Desktop and run Setup.exe.

Mac:

On Mac, open a Finder window and click on the Sibelius DVD on the left. Copy the Sibelius 6 Installer onto the Desktop. If this fails then the DVD is damaged. You can download the full installer from the links above, which will save you waiting for a new one in the post.

If copying the Sibelius folder is successful, double click the Sibelius 6 Installer and this will launch the installer.

Troubleshooting:

If the installer still doesn't work, make sure you have enough hard drive space and that you're logged into the computer as an Administrator. If you're not sure, ask the person who set up your computer and they will be able to check this for you.

Windows installers can sometimes fail with an error message and code. The following website from Microsoft will help you find out more about the error:
