574: Unable to open Sibelius 5 after closing it

If you find that you can't start Sibelius 5 after closing it without restarting your computer, the chances are that you are using an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 sound card on Windows Vista. M-Audio are aware of this and are looking into a solution. In the meantime there are two things that will work around it:

  1. Reboot your computer.
  2. Go to C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 5. [NOTE: if you can't find the AppData folder click here for help]
  3. Open the file PlaybackConfig.xml in a text editor, e.g. Notepad.
  4. You will see something like this:
  5. <Device>
        <ShortName>Delta AP MIDI</ShortName>
        <LongName>Delta AP MIDI</LongName>
        <AvailableIndex>0<SoundSetName />
        <IsGuitar>False</IsGuitar>
    </Device>

  6. Copy the name of the device i.e. Delta AP MIDI to the clip board (as you will need to paste it in soon)
  7. Delete the information inbetween the <Device> and </Device> tags
  8. Find the line that says:
  9. <DisabledDevices />

  10. Replace this with:
  11. <DisabledDevices>
        <DisabledDevice>Delta AP MIDI</DisabledDevice>
    </DisabledDevices>

  12. Save and close this file.
  13. Start Sibelius 5, close Sibelius 5, wait about 5 to 10 seconds and start Sibelius again. If this is successful then you can carry on using Sibelius. If you still find Sibelius doesn't start up properly you:
    1. Reboot your computer
    2. Start Sibelius 5
    3. Go to File, Preferences and choose Input Devices on the left
    4. You should see the Delta AP MIDI device listed there in the Device Name column. The Type and Input Map columns should both say "Inactive". If it doesn't, you havn't done the above correctly so please go back to step one above to review.

If you still can't get this to work, please email the PlaybackConfig.xml file to the appropriate Technical Support team along with your Sibelius serial number and we will investigate this further for you:
