570: 'Piano volume' knob on M-Audio KeyStudio 49i affects volume of a random staff in Sibelius

The KeyStudio 49i (also known as ProKeys Sono 49) from M-Audio has a knob labelled Piano Volume that controls MIDI volume (controller 7). This can have unexpected effects in Sibelius, changing the volume of one of the staves in the score.

If you have not already done so, you should update to Sibelius 5.2.5 (either by going to Help > Check for Updates within Sibelius, or by clicking here), which includes an input map for this keyboard. Once this update is installed, you'll need to tell Sibelius to use this input map:

  • Go to File (Windows) or Sibelius 5 (Mac) > Preferences > Input Devices, and choose Input Devices.
  • Select your KeyStudio 49i in the list of devices, and from the Input map column, choose KeyStudio 49i, then click OK.

You will now find that turning the Piano Volume knob on your keyboard now adjusts the master volume level in Sibelius's Mixer window.
