560: How to use Kontakt Player 2 in multiple user environments

Due to a problem with the way that Kontakt Player 2 is installed, you will find that Kontakt Player 2 will not appear as a device in Sibelius when you log in as a non-administrator (or limited privileges) user, or when you log in using a different user account to that which you used to install Kontakt Player 2.

To allow all user accounts on your computer to use Kontakt Player 2 in Sibelius 5 you need configure the files and folders that the Kontakt Player 2 needs, as follows.

Mac

You don't need to reinstall anything, but set the permissions on the following folders to Read & Write for all users, using the Get Info window (shortcut Command-I in the Finder):

  • /Applications/Kontakt Player 2
  • /Applications/Sibelius Software/Sibelius Sounds
  • /Library/Preferences/ all the files called com.native-instruments....plist
  • /Library/Application Support/Native Instruments

Be sure to set these permissions to Apply to enclosed items too.

Important: You also need to change the permissions of the files located here:

  • /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST and Components

Simply Ctrl-click on the Kontakt Player 2 file and choose Show Package Contents. Now, Ctrl-click on the Contents folder that has appeared and choose Get Info. Again, set the permissions to Read & Write for all users.

Be sure to set these permissions to Apply to enclosed items too.

Windows

To allow the use of Kontakt Player 2 under Windows XP for all user accounts you need to install Kontakt Player 2 and the Sibelius Sounds libraries into C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents, or somewhere else with full read and write access for all users.

If you already have your Sibelius Sounds libraries installed you will need to uninstall them and reinstall, making sure to choose the above location.
