542: Sibelius crashes when Kaspersky Internet Security is installed

This article describes solutions for the problem where Sibelius may crash when you have Kaspersky Internet Security installed.

Choose your version of Kaspersky:

Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0

Problem:

We are aware of some compatibility issues with running Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 and Sibelius at the same time which results in Sibelius closing down.

The symptoms include crashing when ever a Save or Open dialog box is opened or crashing, sometimes with the following error message, when starting Sibelius:

Application failed to initialise: 0xc00000142

Solution: Update to 7.0.1.325 or later

Kaspersky have released Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 Maintenance Pack 1, which fixes this problem.

In order to go from Kaspersky Anti-Virus or Kaspersky Internet Security versions 7.0.0.124, 7.0.0.125 to Kaspersky Anti-Virus or Kaspersky Internet Security version 7.0.1.325 (Maintenance Pack 1 (MP1)), do the following:

  • Download the distributive version 7.0.1.325 from the Kaspersky Lab’s official site here.
  • Run the downloaded file and install it "over the top" of the currently installed version.
  • Restart your computer.

If you are still having problems please refer to Help Center article A563: Problems running Sibelius before contacting technical support.

Kaspersky Internet Security 2011

We are aware of some compatibility issues with running Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 and Sibelius at the same time which results in Sibelius crashing on startup or not being able to show the text in dialogs correctly.

Solution:

  • Download the autoruns program from Microsoft Sysinternals
  • Download and install the application found at the top right of the web page.
  • Double click autoruns.exe and click YES or OK.
  • In the 'AppInit' tab, look for any entries, and uncheck them.
  • After making this setting close this window and try launching Sibelius.

This prevents programs from hooking into every application that runs, whilst still functioning correctly.

Kaspersky are aware of this issue and are looking to fix this in a future update to Kaspersky Internet Security.
