483: Problems updating Sibelius 4.0 to 4.1 when you have the Sibelius Coloured Keyboard

Problem

If you have installed the Sibelius Coloured Keyboard and you are upgrading Sibelius 4.0 to 4.1, the installer may fail with the message

"The file C:\Program Files\Sibelius\Sibelius 4\Menus and Shortcuts\Sibelius Coloured Keyboard SFS is not a valid previous version and could not be upgraded"

In Sibelius's About box it will say Sibelius is 4.1 but because the update failed it is actually still 4.0 so not all the updated features will be available.

Solution

• Close Sibelius 4
• Go to C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 4\Menus and Shortcuts
• Copy the Sibelius Coloured Keyboard.SFS file out on to your desktop for safe keeping.
• Put in your Sibelius 4.0 CD and run the installation again to go over your existing Sibelius 4 installation.
• Run the Sibelius 4.1 updater and this should go through with no problems.
• Go back to C:\Program Files\Sibelius Software\Sibelius 4\Menus and Shortcuts and put the Sibelius Coloured Keyboard.SFS you copied for safe keeping back into the folder.
