467: Sending bank change MIDI messages from the Playback Dictionary.

In Sibelius 3 there is a small problem with sending MIDI bank changes when they are entered in the playback dictionary.

For example:

  • Go to Play > Dictionary and change the 'pizz' entry so that the Effect column says Sound (instead of 'Named Sound') and then give it a bank and program number (people using soundfonts may want to do this). Then click OK to close the dialog
  • Now press Play to play the score and the first time Sibelius plays the section where 'pizz' is written it will be fine.
  • Then press stop and play again and this time Sibelius will only playback the program number, not the bank number.
  • If you change the playback dictionary entry or move a note up and down on the score and then press play Sibelius will once again playback the bank change.

It is probably therefore easier to use these bank change messages by entering them directly on the score such as ~P256,34 instead of using the playback dictionary. See MIDI Messages in the Sibelius 3 User Guide for more information.

This problem does not occur in more recent versions of Sibelius – upgrade here.
