464: Kontakt plays / sounds in the wrong key (sample rate)

It is possible that when you press Play in Sibelius and have the Kontakt Player Silver or Gold set as your output device that your score may not play back at the correct pitch due to the sample rate that your soundcard is set to.

If you aren't sure if Kontakt is playing at the correct pitch then go to the Play > Playback and Input Devices menu (or Play > Devices in earlier versions of Sibelius) and select a different device such as the MIDI chip on your soundcard as the playback device. Then play your score - the soundcard will play back at the correct pitch and you can use it as a reference point.

If you find that Kontakt is playing slightly high or even an octave too high when Kontakt is set as your Playback Device (see above) open the Kontakt Player from the Window > Kontakt menu and then select Audio Setup from the left hand side. Check the sample rate - it should be set to 44100. If it is set higher (maybe 48000 or 96000) then change it - you may have to change the Output Device first. Then press OK to close the dialog and try playing the score through the Kontakt Player again.

Once you have set the sample rate correctly you should never need to change it again unless you install any other programs or drivers which make use of the same setting.
