439: Laissez vibrer (l.v.) lines - adding them easily

To easily add laissez vibrer (l.v.) lines to notes in your score, you can assign the l.v. line to one of Sibelius' custom articulations.

Sibelius 5

Step 1: installing the House Style

(This only needs to be done once.)

  • Download this score and open it with Sibelius 5.
  • Go to House Style > Export House Style.
  • Choose a name for your House Style (e.g. "Laissez Vibrer Lines") and click OK.

Step 2: using the House Style

(This only needs to be done once per score.)

  • Open the score to which you want to add the l.v. lines.
  • Go to House Style > Import House Style.
  • Select the House Style you exported in step 1 (e.g. "Laissez Vibrer Lines") and click OK.

It's even easier if you're starting a new score: just select the House Style you exported in step 1 (e.g. "Laissez Vibrer Lines") in the House Style section of the New Score dialog.

Step 3: adding the l.v. lines

  • Select the note to which you want to add the l.v. line.
  • Select the Articulations layout in Sibelius keypad (F11).
  • Turn on the Custom Articulation 1 articulation (top row, second from the left).

Download this House Style .lib file.

Unzip the archive, then copy the file L.V. Lines.lib to the House Styles folder inside your Sibelius 3 program folder. If you're having difficulties uzipping this archive, please refer to Help Center article A578.

To use the House Style, choose House Style > Import House Style and choose L.V. Lines.lib from the dialog.

The l.v. line is mapped to the first user-defined articulation space on the fourth (F11) Keypad layout.
