429: How to get two of the same sound to load twice in Kontakt
If you have two of the same instrument in a score Sibelius will often use the same sound for both instruments. However, it may sometimes be useful to for the Kontakt Player to load different sound for each instrument (e.g. for applying MIDI commands such as bends or quarter tones to one staff and not the other).
Sibelius 5
- Go to File (Windows) or Sibelius 5 (Mac) > Preferences > Playback
- Under Slot and Channel Sharing, deselect Use the same slot for similar instruments
- When you then press play on the score you will find the two instruments use separate slots in the Kontakt Player
Sibelius 4
- Go to Play > Playback and Input Devices
- Click the Kontakt Player Options button and deselect Use the same slot for identical sounds
- When you then press play on the score you will find the extra sample has been loaded into the Kontakt Player
You will need to have enough free slots for the Kontakt Player to load the extra sample. If you don't have any free slots and you would rather have, say, the two violins playing rather than the timpani you can then 'mute' the timpani in the Sibelius mixer which will free up a slot for the extra violin.
Sibelius 3
- Go to Play > Playback Options
- Deselect Use the same slot for identical sounds
- When you then press play on the score you will find the extra sample has been loaded into the Kontakt Player
You will need to have enough free slots for the Kontakt Player to load the extra sample. If you don't have any free slots and you would rather have, say, the two violins playing rather than the timpani you can then 'mute' the timpani in the Sibelius mixer which will free up a slot for the extra violin.
