404: How to use the Edirol HQ-OR, Super Quartet or Hyper Canvas with Sibelius

Sibelius 5 is a VST host, which means it is capable of loading virtual instruments such as the Kontakt Player 2 software sampler. If you're using virtual instruments with Sibelius, we strongly suggest you upgrade now. However, it is possible to link earlier versions of Sibelius to stand-alone virtual instruments (or other MIDI applications) using a program that creates virtual MIDI ports on your computer.

Please Note: This information below is offered out of courtesy. If you have problems setting up any of these programs please contact the software creators technical support department. The Sibelius Technical Support department will not be able to help.

You cannot link Sibelius directly to soft synths such as the Edirol HQ-OR, Super Quartet and Hyper Canvas however you can still use them via a VST host.

You will need to install something like V-STack or Chainer (click on each name to find out more about each program) or a similar VST host application to load the soft synth into.
You will then need to link Sibelius to the VST host application using a program such as MIDI Yoke see A453 for details.

When you then start Sibelius it will tell you that your 'midi devices have changed' and take you to the Devices menu (if not go to Play > Devices) and there will be some extra MIDI Ins and Outs labelled e.g. 'MIDI Yoke NT: 1' - set this to 'Yes' and all other devices to 'No'.
Also choose the correct soundset - 'Edirol HQ-OR', 'Edirol Super Quartet' or for the Hyper Canvas select 'General MIDI 2'
Note: Do not set your Input Device to be the same MIDI Yoke port as the output or you will crash the computer.

Then, if we take the HQ-OR and V-STack as the example you load the Edirol > HQ-OR as a VST Instrument in V-STack and set 'MIDI Yoke NT: 1' (from above) as the MIDI input.
