323: Repeat bar symbols - how to make them play back

Repeat bar symbols (which look a little like %) do not currently play back, but a simple procedure will enable this effect in your scores, as follows:

  • Enter the bar you wish to repeat. Select this bar.
  • Change the notes to voice 2 (shortcut Option-2 (Mac) or Alt+2 (Windows))
  • If you end up with more than a single bar rest in voice 1, select one of the voice 1 rests, then hit F9 (to see the second keypad layout) and then hit 0 on your numeric keypad, which will consolidate all the voice 1 rests into a single bar rest
  • Go to Edit > Filter > Voice 2
  • Press the R key to copy it to the next bar. Continue if multiple repeats are desired.
  • Select the bars you just copied and Edit > Filter > Voice 2.
  • Go to Edit > Hide or Show > Hide. This will hide the voice 2 notes in these bars.
  • Select your original bar and hit Option-1 (Mac) or Alt+1 (Windows) to put the notation back into voice 1.
  • Select your repeat bar(s) and change the measure rest into the repeat sign in the Bars panel of the Properties window.
