320: Using the SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer 5.1 sound card with Windows XP

If you are using the SoundBlaster Live X-Gamer 5.1 sound card, you may find that when you start Sibelius, an error message "The SynthScore license is invalid" appears, and Sibelius will not run.

This problem is related to the installation of a piece of software called Auto-EAX that was supplied with your card:

“[Auto-EAX is] an applet installed with Creative (Creative Technology, Ltd -- SoundBlaster) that allows you to specify for any audio application what audio preset to automatically associate with the currently active speaker output... For each audio application on your computer, you can specify the audio preset that will be automatically associated with it, for each speaker output configuration.”

To remedy this problem, simply uninstall Auto-EAX using the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel.
