243: MIDI devices - synthesizers, sound modules and other equipment supported by Sibelius

Sibelius has built-in support for all General MIDI and General MIDI 2 compatible devices. This includes most computer soundcards and some software synthesizers (such as Microsoft's GS Wavetable Synth on Windows and QuickTime Music on the Mac).

Support for Yamaha XG devices, such as Yamaha keyboards and the SW1000XG sound card, is also included. (See Help Center article A69 for advice about these devices.)

On classic Mac OS (versions up to 9.x), support for additional MIDI devices is also provided via the third-party OMS and FreeMIDI. If your device is supported by either of these utilities, you will be able to use them with Sibelius. For help on setting up OMS and/or FreeMIDI, see Help Center Article A204.

On Windows and Mac OS X, the following additional devices are directly supported by the inclusion of 'sound set' files in Sibelius 2:

  • Boss DR-202
  • Emu Proteus 2000
  • Emu Virtuoso
  • Korg Triton
