17: Roland JV series modules - change performance setting during playback

Any program changes received on MIDI channel 16 by a Roland JV synth will result in the module changing its performance setting during playback, resulting in incorrect sounds during playback.

If your JV switches performance during playback, try switching off the Control Channel:

  • Set up the unit in the usual way (i.e. make sure it is in Performance Mode)
  • Press the System button on the front panel
  • Set the Control Channel to OFF by turning the Value knob past channel 16.
  • Press the System button once more.

The JV series synthesisers are preset to use channel 16 in a special way: any control changes on this channel will change the selected performance. This is only rarely useful, and never useful in Sibelius.
