122: Mac OS X and Sibelius

Sibelius 5 works on Mac OS 10.4 and higher. It requires a small compatibility update to run on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. For a full specification list please click here.

Sibelius 4 works on Mac OS 10.2.8 and higher. It requires a small compatibility update to run on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Sibelius 3 (and 2.1) for Mac is fully 'carbonized' and runs on Mac OS 8.6-9.x and also natively under OS 10.1 to 10.4.10. Neither Sibelius 2 or 3 are supported on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard.

Sibelius 1.4 itself runs without any problems in Mac OS X's 'classic' mode (i.e. when it runs Mac OS 9.1 on top of Mac OS X). However, neither OMS nor FreeMIDI run in 'classic' mode, so it is not possible to use Sibelius with external MIDI devices under the new operating system. QuickTime Music, on the other hand, works without any problems.

There is no way to enable MIDI in Sibelius 1.4 under Mac OS X. Instead, we recommend that users upgrade to the latest version of Sibelius, which fully supports this new OS.
