114: Staves - stopping before the right-hand edge of the page
Sibelius always justifies music so that it finishes exactly at the right-hand margin. In some instances this is undesirable, so to make a system of music end before the right-hand edge (e.g. in the middle of a page):
In Sibelius 3 (and later) you can drag the right-hand edge of the staff to the left to make more space at the end of the line (for worksheets etc). To do this, click at the end of the last bar of that system where the middle line of a staff meets the barline. You will then get a little purple box - click and drag this box to the left.
In Sibelius 2 you cannot move the right hand side of the system, so you can only achieve the same result by hiding the last part of the staff. Therefore do the following:
- Add a few extra bars to the end of the score, so that the final bar with music in it is in the correct position
- Insert an extra final (double) barline at the end of the music, before the extra added bars, using Create > Barline > Final
- Use Create > Staff Type Change to Pitched > Hidden (no lines) and insert the staff type change just after the new final barline; this causes the rest of the staff to disappear (you'll need to repeat this for all the staves in the system)
In Sibelius 1 you also cannot move the right hand side of the system so do the following:
- Add a few extra bars to the end of the score, so that the final bar with music in it is in the correct position
- Insert an extra final (double) barline at the end of the music, before the extra added bars, using Create > Barline > Final
- Use Create > Staff Type Change... and in the Pitched category choose Hidden (no lines) and insert the staff type change just after the new final barline; this causes the rest of the staff to disappear (you'll need to repeat this for all the staves in the system)
